On Presidents’ Day we celebrate the achievements of some of our greatest presidents. I like to share a variety of books about Presidents’ Day – stories, informational books, and biographies. Look below to find some of my favorite picture books to read aloud for Presidents’ Day.

Have you ever dreamed of running for president? In this story six children take turns showing what it is like to run for president. They describe the whole election process as if they are the candidates.

#3 – Grace for President

Grace for President by Kelly DiPucchio

Grace learns that our country has never had a female president. She decides that she will be the first and sets out to run for president in her school’s mock election.

#4 – Duck for President

Duck for President by Doreen Cronin

Would you vote for Duck? Duck is tired of work around the farm. He holds an election to replace Farmer Brown. Eventually, he decides to run for governor and then president.

#5 – This Little President: A Presidential Primer

This Little President: A Presidential Primer by Joan Holub

Presented in rhyme, this book introduces 10 different presidents and highlights an interesting fact about each of them. The story includes Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Lincoln, Grant, T. Roosevelt, F. Roosevelt, Kennedy, Reagan, and Obama.

This is a fun, easy to read biography of George Washington. It is part of the Ordinary People Change the World series.

#7 – I am Abraham Lincoln (Ordinary People Change the World)

I am Abraham Lincoln (Ordinary People Change the World) by Brad Meltzer

Also part of the Ordinary People Change the World series, this book is a biography of Abraham Lincoln.
