Thanksgiving is only 2 weeks away. I am looking forward to spending the day with my big extended family. This summer we moved back to MN so we could be closer to our family, so we are really looking forward to this holiday season.
Today I created a fun cut and past activity to practice solving word problems with numbers up to 10. You can download it for Free using the link at the bottom of this post.
Each page features an addition word problem and ten frame for creating a model to represent the problem. There are also 20 small pictures related to the word problem. Students cut apart the pictures and use them to show each part or addend.
I start by asking students to mark each box that will be used. In this case, there are 9 turkeys, so they would mark 9 boxes. This helps students visualize the total number number of pictures they will need to use.
Students begin modeling the problem by placing the pictures for the first addend into the ten frame.
Then they place the cards for the second addend and solve the problem. There is a space to write out the problem below the ten frame.
This is a low-prep activity. Simply print and go. It is great for math centers, independent work, early finishers, homework, and more!
