My children’s new favorite book is Do Unto Otters: A Book About Manners
by Laurie Keller. We just discovered it a few weeks ago. It is about a rabbit who gets new neighbors, the otters. It is great for teaching kids about how to treat others. The otters are very silly. This book gets a lot of laughs at our house.

It would work well for setting the expectations of how to treat others in class. I read it to my young children at home, but I plan on using it with my sixth-graders, too.

- What things do you to be kind to others?
- Have you ever had to meet a new group of people? How did you feel? Were you nervous or excited?
- Write your own guide book for how to treat others.
